Refugee Open Cities Refugee Open Cities (ROC21) aims to turn emergency shelters into thriving environments. It begins in Berlin: In the midst of Berlin-Neukölln approximately 600 refugees live on four vast floors in an abandoned warehouse. Together with the inhabitants of the emergency shelter, Refugee Open Cities redesigns and reshapes a full floor of the warehouse according to inhabitants’ needs and wishes. Based on the layout of a village, a central market place for public events, spaces for leisure and work, as well as safe zones for kids and sport activities have been set up. Refugee Open Cities eventually takes the Berlin experience to other places to implement its best practices elsewhere. politglott is supporting Refugee Open Cities as one of its partners.
